Head Gaskets & Cylinder Heads

Head Gaskets & Cylinder Heads

There are a few reasons that vehicles may require either a full head service or a cylinder head replacement. Some of these common causes are as follows;

• Leaking head gasket, allowing exhaust gasses into the cooling system. This can most often be rectified with a full head service and reassembling with a new VRS gasket kit & head bolts etc. When the cylinder head is serviced, if a crack in the cylinder head is found, the head will require replacement.
• Crack in the cylinder head, allowing exhaust gasses into the cooling system. This can most often be rectified with a replacement cylinder head and reassembling with a new VRS gasket kit & head bolts etc.
  Sometimes, it is recommended by specialists to replace the engine instead. This occurs due to three main reasons;
  • The cracked cylinder has been left for too long and caused additional damage
  • It is a known fault for that particular vehicle.
  • The vehicle has very high mileage.
