A starter motor gives the ‘crank’ that the vehicle requires in order start. A starter motor requires power to operate , this power comes directly from the battery. When you activate the ignition switch (by key or push button), the starter motor becomes energised and the body’s internal electromagnet engages (an electrical charge is sent to the solenoid). This cranks the engine via the charge that is sent until the vehicle starts. The starter motor will click off and disengage the starter ring once the engine starts.
